Dub Mission presents Naram, one of New Zealand's emerging dub reggae producers. For his Bay Area debut, Naram will deliver a hard-hitting original dancehall and digi set, with fresh vocals and dubs mixed live using vintage analog and digital technology. A prolific producer, Naram has also been featured on Mungos Hi Fi label, Scotch Bonnet, Cubiculo, Grand Ancestor, Jahtari, and his very own label Colonel Mustards. His most recent production, Outta Road, is set for release on Red Robin records.
Red Robin is a local farmer, resident, and DJ personality from rural New Zealand. Coming from the town of Te Mata (population 300) where he runs a radio show, and his namesake record label, Red Robin finds his musical inspiration in his addiction to 80s roots and rubadub music.
Oakland's Inner Standing Sound System plays well-tuned, heavily amplified reggae and dub to uplift the body, mind, and soul. Known for its custom, heavyweight sound system, Inner Standing has held regular parties in the Bay Area and around Northern California for the last four years. Playing European sound system festivals and events over the last two years, Inner Standing has brought its special style of dub straight to the people. Inner Standings releases and dubplate productions have been played heavily by Jah Shaka, Aba Shanti, Channel One and many other world-famous sound systems. Inner Standings upcoming vinyl release, Mek We Build/Vibes Wise features Arkaingelle chanting on a riddim by UK producer and musician, Idavid; and Ras Amlak on a riddim by Italian producer Buriman out of Moa Anbessa Studio.
Ras Amlak is a multitalented Rastafari artist whose paintings and vocals express a depth of perspective and heights of meditation. As a chanter Ras Amlak has been Inner Standing Sounds primary mic man for years and has recorded a series of sought-after dubplates from producers Brizion, RAZ-Tek Roots, King Alpha, Jah Sonic, Violinbwoy and more.
Joshua Hales was born and raised just north of the San Francisco Bay Area. He began writing, producing, and recording songs at 14. Joshua's music can be described as a new-age versatile blend of hip hop, R&B, and reggae, with a lyrical message of positivity, truth, and rebellion. Joshua has opened for Chezidek, Spragga Benz, Chukki Starr, Million Stylez, Laza Morgan, Mega Banton, Jah Dan, Lymie Murray, Jah Mali, Dugsy Ranks, and others. Joshua approaches music as a mission, and describes his songs as a narrative reflection of his inner-journey. He has been featured on a number of productions for Inner Standing Sound, Brizion and Sista Habesha.
DJ Sep is the founder, promoter, and main resident DJ at Dub Mission. For 22 years, Sep was also on Bay Area radio: first on the highly influential college station, KUSF and later at Pacifica public radio station, KPFA. She's the co-compiler of Babylon Is Ours: The USA in Dub, a collection of all-exclusive American dub tracks released on Select Cuts Records. In 2009, Mochipet's Daly City Records released her remixes (with Jason Short) of "Get Your Dub Wet" featuring Juakali and Mista Chatman. Sep has won a Goldie Award (Bay Guardian) and been nominated for Best DJ (SF Weekly Music Awards). She has spun in London, Vancouver, Tijuana, New York, Washington DC, Miami, Portland, Seattle, and Los Angeles and has opened for the likes of Sly & Robbie, Lee Perry, The Wailers, Culture, Big Youth, Les Nubians, Rachid Taha, Kinky, The Cinematic Orchestra and many others.
Now 20 years strong, Dub Mission is one of the longest-running parties in the world, featuring cutting-edge dub, roots reggae, dancehall and more, every second Friday at Elbo Room.
